Saturday, November 4th, 9:30–3:30
At Yerkes Observatory (373 W. Geneva St., Williams Bay, WI, 53191)
You've heard about the importance of developing STEM skills in our students, but what about building STEAM skills? How can you include the ARTS into your Science, Technology, Math and Engineering teaching? Broadening our approach is a sure-fire way to encourage new and diverse voices and perspectives in STEM areas, and Art can be an engaging and fun approach to encourage kids who "aren't good at math" or "don't like science" to work up some STEAM for STEM.
Come to our workshop where we will have an ad hoc "makerspace." Perhaps you'll make your own pop-up book, where you'll measure forces, torques, and dimensions? Maybe you'd like to build an instrument and experiment with sound waves and acoustics. Learn how to use design to improve a prototype and start building some ideas for your own units and classroom.
